When the party levels up it is truly a joyous occasion. All of the work the party has put into the campaign has come to fruition as you all become ostensibly stronger.
Step-By-Step
Before begining the process of leveling up your character, be sure to take a look at the direction your character has taken in the game and how that may affect their progression. Would they become physically stronger or more conditioned or resolute. Will your character continue training in their main discipline or have they been opened to a new discipline by a teammate. Your progression can be a great place to outwardly show how your character has changed through the game.
1. Gain Points
Upon leveling up you will first gain a number of stat, skill and discipline points depending on the level you reached. Consult the level table to find how many of each point you gain, if you gain multiple levels be sure to consider all levels you have skipped as well and gain all the corresponding points.
When you gain a level, you gain 2 stat points and 1 skill and discipline point. You may increase one stat by 2 or 2 stats by 1.
Leveling Table
|Level|Stat Points|Skill Points|Discipline Points|Abilities| |:---:|:---------:|:----------:|:---------:|:---------:|| |1 |+5|+2|+2|+5| |2 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |3 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |4 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |5 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |6 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |7 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |8 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |9 |+2|+1|+1|+3| |10|+2|+1|+1|+3|
2. Allocate Points
Now that you have all your points, you may allocate them as you please. Be sure to note any changes that may occur due to increasing a level in a stat, skill or discipline, such as your initiative, dice thresholds or armor reduction values.
3. Calculate Health
Now you should calculate your new health, roll as many d10s as your constitution stat and add the total to your current maximum health. If you were missing health this does not heal you.
4. New Abilities
The final step in leveling up is to learn new abilities. You may learn up to 2 new abilities per level you gained. The abilities you learn may be of any complexity that you have access to and you may not exceed the maximum amount of skills allowed per discipline level and you may require a certain level. Consult the discipline level and ability table to see how many abilities of each level of each discipline you may have.

Progression
Progressing to higher levels is done by a quest point system. To level up the party must have collected a corresponding number of quest points. Quest points are awarded by completing a quest, mission or discovering plot important information or locations. While quest points are primarily plot oriented a party can earn smaller amounts of quest points for completing side quests. A plot important quest would gain the party a single quest point whereas completing a side quest would gain the party half a quest point, or smaller at the GM’s discretion.
Tracking and awarding of quest points can be done privately by the GM and only notifying the party of when a level up occurs or done publicly and tracked by the players. Upon a level up the quest points of the party are reset back to 0. Players should earn between 1 and 2 quest points in a single session.
Quest Points Per Level
Examples of reasons to award quest points include:
- Clearing a region of hostiles for a town’s mayor
- Retrieving an artefact from a dungeon for a wizard
- Finding a minister’s plans to murder the king
- Finding a secret temple used for cultish rituals
Higher levels take increasingly more quest points to be gained.
- Level 2: 2 Quest Points
- Levels 3-4: 3 Quest Points
- Levels 5-7: 4 Quest Points
- Levels: 8-11: 5 Quest Points
- Levels: 12-16: 6 Quest Points
- Levels: 17-20: 7 Quest Points
