Shade

Natives of the Shadenland, the Shade are deceptive beings who exist as living contradictions to the natural order. They can take the form of a person but can hardly be described as such, for their basic form is that of a living shadow, amorphous and made of darkness and smoke. Born from the void between worlds, Shades are creatures of pure entropy whose very essence is antithetical to creation, designed to twist and corrupt all they touch.

Special: When creating a Shade character your base stats all begin at 0. At level 1 a Shade has 15 stat points to allocate, to a maximum of 5 levels in a stat. You will gain the normal amount of stat, skill and feat points as you level up to subsequent levels. As magical creatures born of shadow and void, Shades do not possess a Vitality stat. Instead, their health is calculated using their Arcana stat in place of Vitality for all health-related calculations. Additionally, any checks that may require one's Vitality stat should be done with their Arcana stat.

Traits

  • Shade Touch (per rest): Once per rest you may touch an object no larger than a person and corrupt it with shadow essence for 24 hours. The object's purpose becomes warped: healing potions cause harm, weapons become fragile and break easily, armor provides no protection, locks open when they should stay closed, lights extinguish instead of illuminate, or tools perform the opposite of their intended function. In essence, the object's fundamental function is reversed or perverted from its original design. Some objects may lose their material properties entirely, becoming insubstantial shadows of their former selves.
  • Voidcaller (per rest): Once per rest you may disrupt all magical effects within 5 tiles of you. Active spells are suppressed, magical items cease functioning, and no new spells can be cast in the area. This lasts for 3 turns in combat or 10 minutes outside combat.
  • Night Terror (per rest): If you touch a person or creature you may learn what their deepest fear is. Once per rest you may infect their mind and alter their perception and make them see you and your allies as what they fear most. The creature will be feared of the whole party for 2 turns and must make a resistance check against their Vitality or be turned mad for the rest of combat.
  • Mirror Echo (per rest): Once per rest, if you have a sample of a creature or person, you may perfectly take on their form and voice for 1 hour.
